Mystery/thriller fiction novel by Alex North, published 2019

If You Leave a Door Half Open...
“If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.
If you play outside alone, soon you won’t be going home.
If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass.
If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you.”
Centered around a Tom, a grieving husband, and Jake, his 7-year old sensitive son, The Whisper Man weaves an insanely intricate tale of caught between the cyclical darkness of humanity and the deep emotional complexities of parenting. After the sudden passing of his wife, Tom moves he and Jake to the small town of Featherbank for a fresh start. But of course, things didn't go as he envisioned. Their new home has a dark past, and the town itself has a history of child abductions and murders- both of which Tom and Jake are about to experience firsthand.
Written from multiple perspectives, North's prose does an excellent job of transitioning between each character. I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time, emotionally invested in the plot, and the twists towards the end blew my mind.
5 out of 5 Stars
Overall, this is by far one of the best thrillers I have read in a while and I can't wait to see what other gems that North will come up with next.
