Science fiction novel by Terry Miles, published 2021

Escaping Reality
This book was nearly impossible to put down. Folding laundry and eating dinner became one-handed tasks as my other hand was occupied with page turning. With aspects reminiscent of the tv show Dispatches from Elsewhere, the movie The Matrix and the book Ready Player One, Miles does a superb job of creating a unique and thought provoking story with Rabbits.
For starters, can you even trust the narrator K (yes, just the letter)? They have had their fair share of struggles in life, and it is mentioned numerous times that they have broken from reality previously. This main character flaw makes you pay even more attention to the meandering storyline because at best, K is accurate in their explanations and the world is truly crumbling away, or at worst, K had a full psychotic break and their mind has created a full alternative universe.
Beyond K themselves, each character is written so convincingly, with such raw humanity, that it is easy to create a movie in your mind as you read along. “We each had our reasons for wanting the fantastical world promised by Rabbits to replace the flawed emotional narrative of our real lives.”
5 out of 5 Stars
There is a bit of a long-winded explanation of the science behind theories of alternate realities, but other than that, Rabbits is a whirlwind of an unpredictable story that I highly recommend.
